My research interests are in the areas of software quality, software measurement, software evolution, open-source software, bioinformatics, and healthcare informatics. The flavor of my research in the above areas is interdisciplinary, empirical, and applied. I study real-life and large-scale software development efforts and obtain practical results that can significantly support software managers and practitioners in their decision making.

Baltimore is an excellent area for software engineering professionals and researchers because of its major universities, software companies, and its proximity to other major cities and various organizations that fund software research and development. The State of Maryland itself invests in accelerating the commercialization of technology in Maryland by jointly funding collaborative R&D projects between companies and University System of Maryland faculty through its MIPS program.
